Rosa glauca AKA ‘Rubrifolia’ (Dusky Rose)

Known as the blue leafed rose. Fabulous foliage plant offering brilliant powder blue leaves. Formerly known as ‘Rubrifolia’ for the reddish stems. I grow this for the blue foliage, but the small single pink flowers are a sweet summer surprise, followed by red hips in Autumn. This is a species rose, meaning (not hybridized) and it grows true from seed. Forms a large arching easy to grow shrub. Foliage color is best in part shade where it seems to glow. Will struggle if planted in deep shade. Likes ½ day sun. Edible hips and petals. Height 6-8’ X Width 6’ Zone 2-8

Care: Happy in part ½ day sun or all day bright dappled sun. Prune in late fall/ winter if needed. Easy to grow and very disease resistant. Provide good air circulation and clean up old leaves in winter to prevent foliage diseases. Avoid overhead watering. Drought tolerant once established. Mulch helps to hold in soil moisture.
