Mahonia x media ‘Arthur Menzies’

Large architectural evergreen shrub with showy large fragrant yellow flowers in winter. Provides much needed food for our overwintering Anna hummingbirds. Makes a dramatic specimen looking good all year with large glossy frond like serrated leaves. Large clusters of grape like black fruit develop in fall and winter. The berries are edible and sometimes used for jams, pies, fruit leather when sweetened. The roots contain berberine which is used medicinally as an antibiotic, anti- inflammatory, to lower blood sugar, cholesterol, liver tonic, for acute diarrhea and Deer resistant, drought tolerant, sun-part shade.
