Salvia ‘Heatwave Blaze’

Salvia Heatwave Blaze is an aromatic compact evergreen shrublet providing a blaze of hot scarlet flowers spring through fall. This compact new salvia is a cross between salvia macrohylla and greggii. The result is a drought tolerant salvia with an extended hardiness range. Excellent choice for a waterwise Xeric garden. The sizzling hot scarlet-red blooms attract pollinators and hummingbirds, but deer turn up their noses at the fragrant minty aroma. The short stature makes a wonderful groundcover when used in groupings. 1-2’ Tall and wide. Hardy in zones 6-9 Care: Provide a sharply drained soil in full sun. After the first flush of flowers cut back by half to encourage rebloom and make the foliage more dense. Salvias are all heavy feeders and respond well to some fertilizer or compost in spring. Very heat and drought resistant, but looks best with some water during dry spells.
