Monardella mac. ‘Marian Sampson’ (Hummingbird Coyote Mint)

Marian Sampson Hummingbird mint has compact gray green foliage with surprisingly large red trumpet flowers, backed by burgundy sepals. A hummingbird and butterfly crowd pleaser. They will dive down low for a sip. Blooms repeatedly late-spring through fall. The aromatic minty foliage deters deer and rabbits! Bring a blaze of color to those challenging sites. So easy, just provide sun, well-drained soil and an occasional drink during extended dry spells. Very drought tolerant and can even grow in a Hell-Strip. You know that place between a sidewalk and road where nothing seems to grow? Evergreen. Excellent selection native to the high mountains of California. Try it in a container, grouped along a path, in a rockery or as a flowering carpet fronting a border. Perennial. Host plant to several butterfly species. Cold hardy down to 0 F. Only 4” tall and the large 2” trumpet flowers make up the majority of that. Can slowly spread up to 2’ wide. Zones 6b-10
