Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Slender Silhouette’ American Sweetgum

The name ’Slender Silhouette’ says it all. This tall skinny tree squeezes into narrow spaces making a striking vertical accent in any landscape. Large, deep green leaves look like stars in summer and transition in Autumn to brilliant orange and red. Standing like a sentinel… the unique silhouette and furrowed bark add winter interest. Grows fast once established and can soar to grand heights, while maintaining only 3-5 ft in width. Some dislike sweetgums for their messy fruit, but Slender Silhouette only produces a fraction of the fruit of it’s siblings. Since the tree is so narrow the spiky seedballs fall in a small area. Personally, I love the sweetgum spike-balls! They are so cute in crafts. Sun- part shade zones 5-9
