Clematis ‘Stand by Me’ (Bush Clematis)

This charming bush clematis features hundreds of sweet, recurved, nodding purple flowers with frosted tips from spring into summer; followed by airy seed-heads for another season of interest. ‘Stand by me Clematis, is the handiwork of plant breeder Hans Hanson. He combined 2 non-vining species, clematis fremontii and clematis integrifolia, resulting in a taller more vigorous and floriferous, bush clematis. There’s no need to prune ‘Stand by Me Clematis’. Like a perennial, the top growth simply dies back to the ground each winter and re-emerges with fresh foliage each spring. It’s part of the Proven Winner collection, so you can be assured of excellent garden performance. It’s such a floriferous variety that the weight of flowers needs a bit of support.
