Centranthus ruber ‘Pretty Betsy Jupiters Beard’ Red Valerian

Easy no fuss ever bloomer with 2-3’ tall clusters of tiny, rose red flowers summer to Fall on a well branched clump of dark green foliage. One of the longest blooming, easiest to grow background border plants. Edible young leaves can be used raw or cooked as greens. Less bitter when young. Roots boiled or steamed. Don’t confuse with true Valerian. While this plants is edible it doesn’t have the same sedative nervine properties as true Valerian (Valerian officinalis). Drought and deer tolerant. Needs sun and good drainage. Self sows. 2-3’H
