Wiegela ‘Spilled Wine’

New! 2018 Landscape plant of the Year. I absolutely LOVE this new Weigela. It has a lovely plum color with green veins all Summer and doesn’t ‘green-out’ as some purple varieties do. Instead Summer heat seems to intensify and darken the plum color. Bright magenta pink flowers look lovely against the rich, purple leaves. When happy she can re-bloom late Spring through Fall! Unlike some rangy Weigelas ‘Spilled Wine’ maintains a dwarf low- spreading graceful form, only growing 2-3 ft tall, wider than tall. Provides season-long color in and out of bloom. Deer-resistant. There are so many design choices with ‘Spilled Wine’. They would look lovely in containers, front of the border or massed in the landscape. I’m excited to be able to offer you this variety and even more excited to plant out some in my own gardens. I’m planning a front of the border grouping in front of my old Double Knock out roses. I also plan to incorporate them in a future conifer garden. I think they will really pop in front of a powder-blue ‘Blue Surprise’ Port Orford cedar.
