Abelia grandiflora ‘Pink Pong’

Abelia ‘Ping Pong’ is a fabulous new shrub introduction that holds onto its glossy evergreen foliage even during harsh winters. Deliciously fragrant lavender flowers offer an exceptionally long bloom-time (May- October). The nectar-rich tubular flowers are larger than most abelias, and are a hit with hummers and butterflies. After the blossoms drop; the showy purple-copper calyces remain, offering another season of interest.
Glossy Abelias are deer resistant and drought tolerant once established. They grow in sun-part shade. Best form and flowering is seen with at least ½ day of sun, but glossy abelias can tolerate a surprising amount of shade. Ht 5’-6- W 4’. I think they look best in a natural arching form rather than the meatball form made by overzealous pruners, but If they start to creep higher than you’d like… feel free to snip off any upward shoots. With deep green, glossy, evergreen foliage, fragrance, incredibly long bloom-time and showy calyces; this is truly a multi-season shrub. Zones 5-9
