Persicaria microcephala ‘Red Dragon’

It’s all about the foliage on this darkly alluring selection. Red shoots emerge in spring in a delightful arch, then open to velvety merlot-purple leaves with arrow shaped green and silver chevrons. Insignificant white flowers late season. The foliage can look a bit tired at that point, so I cut it to the ground and fresh foliage emerges rapidly. Easy to grow in sun to part shade with regular water. Best leaf color in ample sun. If grown in too much shade it will lose much of the exciting color. A clumper, not a runner. Forms a large mound 3’ X 4’. If it gets a bit too big, you can easily dig out and divide anytime of the year without fear of damaging the plant. Zone 5-9
