Parrotia subaequalis ‘Chinese Ironwood’

Rare and highly endangered in it’s native Chinese habitat, this beautiful large shrub or small tree makes a landscape sing through the seasons… Capturing the essence of autumn earlier in the season. Starting in late summer this Chinese Ironwood tree is ablaze in shades of red, pink, burgundy and flecks of orange. Compared to Parrotia persica, subaequalis is more compact, has more striking fall color and holds that color over a longer season. You’ll love how it’s awash in fall color for months. As it ages it also has a more pronounced gray, tan and brown flaking bark that everyone who encounters it swoons over. Can be gangly when young, taking on more pleasing form with age.
