Hypericum FloralBerry® ‘Sangria’ St. John’s Wort

This sweet, no fuss shrublet with deep green foliage generously blushed with burgundy. Golden yellow flowers transition to a profusion of red berries that carry interest through fall. Low maintenance, deer and drought resistant, this is a wonderful mid- border plant to carry you through the seasons in style. Happy in full sun-part shade in well drained soils with average water, but quite drought tolerant once established. Fabulous in flower arrangements! Prune in late winter if desired. Ht 2-3’ x W 3’. Deciduous. Zones 5-9

Fun History & Plant lore: Historically, sprigs of Hypericum flowers and berries were placed over the windows and pictures of loved ones to protect against evil spirits. The genus name suggests this use… Hyper is Greek, meaning (above) and ‘eikon’ refers to an image. St Johns Wort, is a powerful medicinal herb, used topically for oils and internally for depression. Floralberry Sangria is a hybridized version, so I would not count on it carrying the same medicinal qualities, but it sure is a wonderful garden shrub!
