Aronia ‘Low Scape Mound™’

Extremely hardy, easy to grow and adaptable to a wide variety of adverse conditions. This is a tough little undemanding shrub that doesn’t need pampering. It forms a tidy little mound of glossy green foliage. It shines in Spring with an abundance of white flowers that turn to glossy black edible berries. Aronia Low Scape Mound has edible berries loaded with antioxidants. With a bit of sugar or stevia they make a wonderful juice, syrup or jam. I’ve added them to grapes for homebrew wine. Wonderful new addition to an edible ornamental landscape. Fall colors are fiery red-orange. Low growing , mounding habit perfect for edging and groundcover. Excels on a slope for erosion control and think of all the berries you’ll have for juice or wine. It won Landscape plant of the year for it’s ease of care and multiple seasons of interest. The common name for Aronia is Chokeberry because of the tart astringency. The berries are perfectly safe to eat raw, but due to their astringent taste they are much better in soup, jams, juiced and used in cooking. I make a yummy concentrate to flavor sparkling water. Zone 3-9 deciduous. part- full sun 12 -24″ tall and a bit wider.
