Trillium cuneatum ‘Sessile of Hort’

One of the most charming Trilliums for both foliage and flowers. I’d grow them alone for their delightfully large marbled foliage, but intrigue builds as big burgundy flowers perch atop the dramatic foliage. Offering a very long bloom-time… all spring. A large, bold and vigorous variety. As an Eastern native it is also an easy and hardy woodlander and one of the 1st ephemerals to grace the forest floor early spring… about the same time the robins become active, giving rise to a common name ‘Wake Robin’ and ‘Birthroot’ as the 1st peoples used it to stimulate childbirth. It’s also called Toad-Shade. I keep looking looking and hoping for a toad or tree-frog to sit under the large leaves. I’ll keep the camera ready! Zone 6-9 Likes rich moist soil in part-full shade.
