Cardiocrinum giganteum var. yunnanense (Giant Himalayan Lily aka Queen of the Garden)

Absolutely Magnificent! Large smooth and glossy basal leaves are reminiscent of a hosta, but one that keeps growing up. Reminds me of Jack and the Beanstalk. Propagation is extremely slow and it can take years to grow out a sellable size. A large bulb will take about 2 years to bloom. Flowers are large, tubular, fragrant and white with a burgundy throat … a perfect landing strip for the hummingbirds. Grows to 8 to ten feet when in flower! Yowza. Plan on having a Cardiocrinum party to impress all your plant nerd friends. For best performance give this grand lady a rich loamy soil with some compost and regular water. Prefers part shade to dappled shade. If planting as a bulb, plant with the top inch above the soil. The bulbs will form offsets and will set seed when it flowers.
