Vaccinium parvifolium

Red huckleberry. A Pacific NW native and trail-side nibble we’ve all come to love. You know the one… usually found growing on old stumps and fallen logs. Graceful ferny foliage with small oval leaves. Spring brings small white bell-shaped flowers noticed only by the bees and forest fairies. Fall brings small sweet-tart red huckleberries. Yummy in pancakes. Sun or shade, but happiest in loamy soil in part shade. One of the few fruits to produce in shade. Slow growing anywhere from 3-12ft. Zone 6-8
