Melianthus major ‘Antonows Blue’ (Honeybush)
Bold architectural and oh so lust worthy! Large powder blue serrated leaves that glisten in the morning dew and when petted emit a sweet peanut butter scent. This Tropicalesque, reliably hardy South African native will quickly become a favorite in your garden. Large spikes of red flowers add to the drama for you and the hummers. Provide a 6’ x 6’ space to allow this beauty to take center stage. Sun to light shade. Extremely deer resistant and drought tolerant. Love Love! The most cold hardy cultivar of Honey Bush.
I’m featuring mine with the purple foliage of loropetalum, fronted by the golden Ilex crenata ‘Touch of Gold’ Dwarf Holly, Thalictrum delavayi ‘Hewitt’s Double’ for an airy contrast and weigela ‘Electric Love’. This is an easy deer resistant combo with very little water needs. Feel free to trim back hard in spring if necessary. Perennial Zones 7-11
