Feijoa sellowiana (Pineapple Guava)
Wonderful rounded evergreen shrub with glossy, oval foliage. Thrives in the PNW. Summer brings white and red flowers sporting large red stamens that look like fireworks exploding outward from the petals… followed by edible egg-shaped fruit in fall. With age you’ll enjoy the cinnamon colored bark. Plant Pineapple Guava in well-drained soil in full to part sun. Drought tolerant, but more productive with irrigation. Takes pruning well. Great as a hedge, espalier, trained to tree form or tucked into any garden as an edible ornamental. Plant 2 to ensure cross-pollination. Deer resistant. Ht 8-12’ and taller in warm winter climates. Zones 7-10
