Lonicera pileata (Privet Honeysuckle)

Small evergreen shrub with elegant layered horizontal branching creating a lovely tiered draping effect. Leaves are glossy, dark green and evergreen. Looks good all year long. So easy and low-maintenance in sun- part shade. Compact size, only 2ft with a low spreading habit. Compared to L. Nitida the leaves are larger, glossier and has a more spreading tiered habit. This little shrub is tough, easy to grow and isn’t fussy about soil. Deer resistant and drought tolerant once established, especially in dappled shade. Small funnel shaped fragrant white flowers in spring transition to translucent violet berries in fall and winter. Where the spreading branches touch the ground they easily root in, creating little evergreen drifts. Excels as an evergreen groundcover. So useful for those difficult dry shady areas where other plants fail. Zone 5-9
